Excursion tips for families during your stay at the Moar Gut

The picturesque Großarl Valley lies in the Salzburg district of Pongau, around 70 km south of the festival city of Salzburg. The impressive Hohe Tauern nature reserve begins at the head of the Großarl Valley. The flora and fauna of Austria’s largest national park are particularly diverse, as the major differences in altitude and the position on the main Alpine ridge bring together different climatic conditions in a very small area.

Hohenwerfen Castle

Hohenwerfen Castle sits impressively on a steep rocky cone in the Salzach Valley near Werfen and dates back to the 11th century. It once served as a defensive fortress and prison and is now a popular attraction. It is particularly well known for its birds-of-prey flying displays and its spectacular views of the Alps.
