A Break at the Moar Gut Hochalm

Silence. All you can hear is the chirping of birds, the murmur of the stream, and the wind rustling through the trees. In the distance, you hear a woodpecker. Ahead, you see an ant scurrying across the path. The fountain splashes gently. Children are running about, and loud laughter fills the air.

At our Moar Gut Hochalm, at 1,693 meters above sea level, families can enjoy a very special getaway in the Salzburg mountains. Whether it’s a day on the alpine pasture with a barbecue package or a picnic basket, or an overnight stay at Moar Gut during the vacation season. Up here, there’s a very special atmosphere. And you can leave everyday life and the hustle and bustle completely behind.

“Far away from everyday life, the hustle and bustle, and the constant need to be reachable lies the Hochalm. Rustic, unspoiled, and with absolutely no cell service. And for me, that’s where true luxury lies.”

Amely Kendlbacher, host

And it is precisely this kind of luxury that we, the Kendlbacher family, share with our guests once a week during our group outing to the Moar Gut Alm. Our kitchen team is on site, grilling regional delicacies, and for dessert, we serve a traditional sheet cake.

A kind of luxury that’s different from what you’d find in a hotel. It’s more authentic. And here, luxury lies in the down-to-earth. In simplicity. In authenticity. In leaving out all excess. Not more. But less. True to our motto: less is MOAR.

And aside from our weekly group outing, we also make the alpine pasture available exclusively to our families. Together, we plan an unforgettable getaway.

Throughout the summer, our cows graze on the high alpine pastures, enjoying the delicate mountain herbs and the tranquility, before returning to the Moar Gut in the fall. The cattle drive down from the alpine pastures holds a very special place in the Alps and is an ancient tradition.

“As a hunter, I recommend that you bring a pair of binoculars to observe the animals. It’s not uncommon to spot chamois, deer, or a marmot. Look closely and take the time to observe nature in all its forms.”

Ferdinand Prommegger, host and hunter

Back in the valley, our guests enjoy a gourmet dinner featuring regional specialties. We source our game meat directly from our own hunting grounds, which are located around the Moar Hochalm. This means the game goes straight from the Salzburg forests to our guests’ plates. Served with lingonberries, which are picked on the alpine pasture in summer, and wild herbs that grow all around the pasture. For us, that’s regionality you can taste.
