Coolcation at Moar Gut

Natur Badesee am Moar Gut

As summer temperatures continue to reach new record highs, more and more people are looking for a refreshing alternative to the classic beach holiday. This is where the coolcation trend comes in. Instead of scorching heat and crowded beaches, an increasing number of families are choosing cooler mountain destinations—like our beautiful region in Salzburger Land. Here, fresh mountain air, gentle breezes, and pleasantly cool temperatures create the perfect setting for relaxation and outdoor adventures, even on the hottest summer days.

What is a Coolcation?

The term coolcation is a combination of the English words cool and vacation. It refers to a holiday in destinations with a mild or cooler climate, offering a refreshing escape from extreme summer heat. Mountain regions such as Salzburger Land are becoming increasingly popular for this type of getaway.

Here, guests can enjoy not only pleasantly cool temperatures but also breathtaking alpine scenery and a wide range of outdoor activities. Whether it’s hiking through peaceful forests to panoramic mountain peaks or cycling along the beautiful Großarler Ache, a coolcation combines relaxation, nature, and active experiences in the fresh mountain air.

Fresh Mountain Air Instead of Summer Heat

One of the greatest advantages of a coolcation is the fresh mountain air of the Alps. Far away from overheated cities, both body and mind can truly unwind. The crisp, clean air is naturally invigorating, making hikes, bike rides, and leisurely walks especially enjoyable—even in the height of summer.

While many holiday destinations struggle with intense heat, guests in the mountains enjoy pleasantly cool temperatures and gentle alpine breezes. The constant circulation of fresh air creates a comfortable climate, making outdoor activities far more enjoyable. Whether you’re exploring the alpine pastures of Großarl, reaching scenic mountain peaks, or relaxing on our lakeside terrace, you’ll experience summer at its most refreshing.

Another benefit of a mountain holiday is the cool nights. As temperatures drop after sunset, sleeping becomes wonderfully comfortable. Simply leave the windows open and let the refreshing mountain air and natural coolness fill your suite.

For even greater comfort, all suites at Moar Gut are equipped with air conditioning, ensuring a relaxing and restful family holiday in the mountains.

A Trip to the Moar Hochalm

Once a week during the summer, we invite our guests to join us on a special excursion to our very own Moar Hochalm. At an altitude of 1,693 metres (5,554 ft), the fresh mountain air and pleasantly cool temperatures provide the perfect escape from the summer heat. Surrounded by the breathtaking peaks of the Großarl Valley and the peaceful silence of nature, it’s a place to truly relax and reconnect.

Our kitchen team accompanies the trip and prepares a traditional barbecue over an open fire, creating a memorable alpine dining experience. And of course, no visit to the Moar Hochalm would be complete without a slice of our homemade Zwetschkenfleck—a classic Austrian plum cake and the perfect sweet ending to the day.
