Why We Introduced “Beweg dich schlau!” to Our Children’s Program

Beweg dich schlau am Moar Gut im Garten

Movement is fun—and when it also helps improve concentration, coordination, and teamwork, even better. That’s why we’ve added “Beweg dich schlau!” (“Move Smart!”), the movement and education program developed by the Felix Neureuther Foundation in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich, to our Kinderhof program.

The concept combines physical activity with playful thinking challenges, engaging both body and mind at the same time. Its goal is to support children’s physical and cognitive development while fostering a lifelong enjoyment of movement.

Former alpine ski racer Felix Neureuther, Germany’s most successful male alpine skier with 13 World Cup victories and five World Championship medals, has been committed to supporting children and young people through his foundation for many years. With “Beweg dich schlau!”, he aims to make physical activity a natural and enjoyable part of every child’s everyday life once again.

Interview with Children’s Club Manager Conny Viehhauser

Conny, how did the training go for you and your team?

We received two days of in-person training on the program. During the training, we not only learned about the content but also tried every exercise ourselves. As part of the quality testing, we invited employees’ children to join us so we could experience the program directly from a child’s perspective.

We were all thrilled—especially by how much fun the activities are and how quickly you can see progress through repetition. The best feedback came from my eight-year-old daughter, Sarah. Afterwards, she said, “Mom, that was sooo cool. Can we do it again really soon?” That really says it all.

What is “Beweg dich schlau!”?

“Beweg dich schlau!” (“Move Smart!”) is a playful movement program that combines physical activity with cognitive challenges. Children solve simple memory tasks or combine movements with colors, numbers, or symbols. This engages them both physically and mentally—but always in a fun and playful way. Most importantly, the focus is on having fun.

Can you give us a few examples?

During the training, my favorite activity was a team challenge that required strategy, communication, balance, and teamwork. Since introducing the program at the Kinderhof, we’ve already tried many of the activities with our young guests—and every single one has been a great success.

The children especially love finger coordination exercises, clapping sequences, balance challenges, and small obstacle courses. They often don’t even realize how much they’re improving their concentration and coordination while having fun.

How do you integrate the movement concept into the Kinderhof’s weekly program?

We incorporate the movement concept into our childcare program several times a week. We offer a variety of playful movement activities that promote motor skills, coordination, and a genuine enjoyment of physical activity.

In addition, we regularly organize family afternoons where parents and children complete different movement stations together. These events combine fun, excitement, and shared experiences while encouraging active movement for all ages.

Depending on the weather, the activities take place either outdoors in nature or in our beautiful sports hall.

Do children need to be particularly athletic to participate?

Not at all. That’s one of the greatest strengths of the program. It requires no previous experience and is suitable for every child—whether naturally sporty or more reserved. Everyone can join in, receives individual encouragement, and experiences moments of success. Above all, the joy of movement always comes first.

What is the goal of “Beweg dich schlau!”?

The main goal is to inspire children to enjoy being active, regardless of their age or fitness level. At the same time, the program strengthens coordination and cognitive skills, which can have a positive impact on concentration, learning ability, emotional well-being, and overall health. We want to give children a strong foundation for a healthy, active lifestyle.

As a mother of two, what do you personally like most about the program?

I love how playful everything is. The children laugh, move with enthusiasm, and hardly notice how much they’re learning at the same time. That’s exactly how movement should be—full of joy, free from pressure to perform, and shared with others.
